there are TONS of reason's a track day is not timed.
#1 reason is because insurance purposes. without any timing instrument, your car is covered at the track because it is a "High performance driving instruction/seminar/class/etc"
but i would check anyways, LOTS of new policies are not allowing for cars to be covered at a race track. this is why if someone goes into a wall, they will have their car towed to right out side the entrance gates, and then call their insurance company

of course, you can bring your own timing equipment. as i do.
