SB 249 - "Assault weapon conversion kit ban"
Holy hell! How did I not know about this! Senator Yee proposes outlawing all bullet button equipped firearms in CA! That's all legally obtained AR's, AK's or anything that would otherwise have a detachable magazine. That's absolutely absurd, bullet buttons were created to FOLLOW the law!
Take Action! | Stop SB 249!
It goes up for vote in just 2 days, I know there's a lot of enthusiasts here and we should all take action and tell Senator Yee about how it will not only cut into our second amendment rights, throw away our hard earned money of which we've spent on our weapons, and it will hurt free trade and jobs will be affected too!
If it passes as of 07/13/2013 every firearm that has a bullet button will be subject to confiscation and atleast a misdemeanor.
Senate Bill 249 (Yee SD-08 “Firearms: assault weapon conversion kits”) is a California State Senate bill authored by Senator Leland Yee designed to prohibit possession, importation, making, selling, transferring, or loaning, any “conversion kit.”
If this Bill passes, beginning July 1, 2013, violating the newly-added gun control laws would subject people to civil and criminal liability.
Penal Code section 17(a) makes a violation of the proposed law a misdemeanor since the proscribed conduct addressed in the bill is not listed as an infraction. (“A felony is a crime that is punishable with death, by imprisonment in the state prison, or notwithstanding any other provision of law, by imprisonment in a county jail under the provisions of subdivision (h) of Section 1170. Every other crime or public offense is a misdemeanor except those offenses that are classified as infractions.” Emphasis added.)
“Conversion kits” could also considered a public nuisance. SB 249 would allow a prosecutor to bring a civil action against the person possessing such a kit. Such a civil action could impose a fine and will require the owner to surrender their weapon without compensation.

Absolute horse ****. We cant say were surprised this has come up recently. It's an Election year, and we all knew it would. Its just sad that this supposed "free" country is so controlling, and out to make it the perfect molded country (state) that THEY see fit. This is not for us "citizens" well being, its for their own. the 5% of the population who use firearms (ones that are usually stolen, or obtained illegally) in an illegal manner are the small percentage of people who give firearms a bad rap, and make all of US law-abiding citizens pay the price for their stupidity.
Just the fact that I would no longer be able to keep not only myself as-well as my family, neighbors, and friends safe but instead, depend on the all mighty "justice" system (which is so crooked don't even get me started) is what erks me the most.
Its a sad, sad world we live in gentlemen..

This is off of the riflegear.com website about CA legal AR's
California Penal Code Section 12276.1
(a) Notwithstanding Section 12276, "assault weapon" shall also mean any of the following:
(1) a semiautomatic, centerfire rifle that has the capacity to accept a detachable magazine and any one of the following:
(a) pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon.
(b) thumbhole stock.
(c) folding or telescoping stock
(d) grenade launcher or flare launcher.
(e) flash suppressor.
(f) forward pistol grip.
The following definitions apply to terms used in the identification of assault weapons pursuant to Penal Code section 12276.1:
5469 (a) "detachable magazine" means any ammunition feeding device that can be removed readily from the firearm with neither disassembly of the firearm action nor use of a tool being required. A bullet or ammunition cartridge is considered a tool.
(d) "pistol grip that protrudes conspicuously beneath the action of the weapon" means a grip that allows for a pistol style grasp in which the web of the trigger hand (between the thumb and index finger) can be placed below the top exposed portion of the trigger while firing.
Basically it breaks down to a single choice and you have to decide what is more important to you. Are you willing to make some ergonomic sacrifices in order to have a rifle with a standard operation magazine release or would you rather sacrifice a little speed when reloading so that you can have features such as a normal pistol grip, forward grip, and collapsible stock?
I want to have a normal looking rifle
Then you will need to have a "fixed" magazine. Buy a magazine lock kit (Bullet Button, Raddlock, Vamfire, etc...) and then you can have all the other evil features you want. It will take a little longer to load because you must use a tool in order to remove the magazine. If most cases, all you have to do is insert a bullet tip into the lock, drop out the fixed magazine, and insert another one in it's place. You can only use 10 round magazines in a fixed-magazine rifle.
I want to have a normal magazine release
Then you will have to build a "featureless" rifle. Typically this involves using a standard A2 stock or any other non-folding, non-collapsible stock, a non-pistol grip such as the Solar Tactical grip wrap, and replacing the flash-hider with a muzzle brake or using a barrel with no muzzle device at all. The bonus of a featureless rifle is that you can legally use 30 round magazines if you had them in your possesion before the ban took effect in 2000.
