Unfortunately, I don't give the benefit of the doubt.

Doesn't every subaru have a sticker on the rear windshield that says "awd" or "symetrical awd" on it?

And I don't get how tow truck drivers, who deal with all sorts of cars everyday, don't get that almost every single subaru is awd

ya, from the factory, they have AWD stickers all over the place. do tow truck drivers know what this means? absolutely not? do you have to hold their hand and teach them how to be an intellectual tow truck driver? YES

So i have a fun story to share:

I lost oil on my car (yet again) and had to be towed from my work parking lot. Which is fine because I have AAA Plus. I called, specifically requested a flat bed, and an hour later in rolls a 2 wheel tow truck. The guy starts to convince me that "it's fine, it's alright, i do this all the time with Subaru's, it's only 4 miles, i don't understand why you would request a flat bed", etc. I hold my ground, and had the car properly towed on a flatbed a few hours later.

So it's not that they don't see the decals or not know that Subaru's are AWD... it's that they think it's fine to pull by 2 wheels.

PS. This was palo alto, so if you need a tow in the PA area, watch out.

=tow truck drivers dont know SIHT!. lol. same thing happened to me. AAA is tricky tho. cuz they do have liability over "non-OEM lowered cars". ive learned to go through private party (no questions asked. you need a flatbed, you got it) and to be honest, some if not most of the times, 3rd party towers know a little more about cars than AAA schmucks. im going to invest in a trailer as well.

If they have a 2 wheel dolly to put onto the rear wheels then its perfectly fine. But if they are just lifting up the front and dragging on the rear wheels then get ready for the huge repair bill.

... and there's no incentive for them to care. If they eff up a Subaru AWD, then it's up to the owner to find it, complain about it, fight it with the company, and get the tow company to pay. In no part of this equation is the tow operator himself.

tru, but ud think that tow companies would either learn or know about these shortcomings and operate differently to avoid lawsuits. but yes, i am well aware that the job of a tow truck driver is to pick up, drop off. anything outside of that is the owners responsibility to inform them. its when they get stubborn and feel like they know what they are doing because they are tow truck drivers...that what i dont get

pretty much as long as all 4s are moving or all 4's are not moving. cant have 2 wheels locked and 2 freely moving. also what u gotta consider is ride height. even on a flat bed, as she rolled off, front lip got snagged on the ramp.

I'm sure there are lawsuits that come of this, because when my car was towed, they took a picture of it on a dolly as proof, since it was the first thing that came out of my mouth when I talked to them.

This might be a dumb question, but if your car is in gear and they tow it by two wheels, what happens?

idk STI center diffs that well. but by common mechanical sense (no not offending u ), it seems like a car left in gear while being towed would put an immense amount of stress on the tranny gears as well as the engine. and after a while, depending how fast the truck is driving, your wheels can no longer spin at that speed and will either start to lock up, clutch will for sure be toast, or just go past the "norm range" for that gear.

DO NOT QUOTE ME ON THIS. as i just took and educated guess and want to know the correct answer as well
