Salvage Title Cars

What's the risk of these? There is a black sedan with only 37k miles down in LA for 11,500. I will be going down to LA in a month and i am considering looking into this. But it has a salvage title from being rolled. What are the risks? I mean if everything gets fixed and he has all the receipts i dont see why i shouldn't buy it. But, i dont know much on the subject.

Actually I'm not sure about being rolled. It was something along those lines. I talked to the guy a while ago, but I know it was heavily damaged.

Salvaged title: Retail Value = 50% of TRADE IN value. Does this give you a clue???

hmmm maybe the tweaked frame will allow you an extra 6 mph on a cloverleaf, right hand turns that is, left might be a bit scary

if ur going to sell it or trade it in... yes. if ur going to buy it and drive it for life... then it could be bad... if the car has been rolled, i'd move on. a car thats been rolled most of the times mean a f*ed up frame and could be a problem. but if the car has been salvaged due to theft or something then thats a call u'll have to make.

Sorry dude. That came out harsh... that wasn't my intention. I work in sales at a Suby dealer and even a 'wholesaler' won't touch a 'marked title'. Run don't walk...

not all salvaged titles are bad. i have a grey market motorcycle that HAS to have a salvaged title to get registered in this country. but if its a regular vehicle thats sold in the us, i would stay away from it too.

I know 2 people with salvage title cars and both are fine. They do exist, but they are rare. Chances are if you are asking about it, you shouldn't buy one... They need a THOROUGH inspection.

Yup, that's the only reason I'd buy one- so you can strip it down straighten it out seam weld it and them beat the living daylights out of it over and over again- without having to pay full blue book in the first place, but like others have said- consider it to be worth about half what it'd be otherwise.

Most insurance companies won't give you comprehensive on a salvage title either

To clean a salvaged title, register the vehicle out of state, and then reregister it here.
