For sale sign on public roads

Can someone explain to me as to why this is not permitted? He was parked on the street at the time. Cop sees the sign, goes up to his car and starts talking to him telling him the sign is not allowed on the car and he can get a ticket. He tells the cop sorry and all that then the cop says he's going to let him go, but he could have written him a ticket.

It's ok as long as it doesn't count as a hinderance to vision, and he car is actually being moved. As in, you cant park a car for more than 72 hrs. even if it isnt for sale.

My friend got hassled by a cop due to the for sale sign in his dad's car. He was parked on the street at the time, but still in the car.

In the back window or windsheild it would be considered a visual impairment, but it should be no problem in a rear side window.

i'm not positive, but i've heard it is illegal to have a FOR SALE sign anywhere on your car when parked on a public street/road.

Sunset BLVD, 19th Ave, Park Presidio BLVD all used to be used car lots, esp on weekends. Yeah, it cluttured up the streets and looked nasty, but I kinda missed being able to just drive by and look at all the cheap beaters FS.

I think it's the issue of being on a public street.

some cities/counties have ordinances that state you can't have a car with a for sale sign parked within a certain amount of feet to the road.
