my wife and I are doing the same thing right now.

My car will be paid off by feb. I think I owe like $650. I'd pay it off now but I need a season pass for snowboarding... haaa.

My wife's golf still has like $6000 to be paid on it and its only worth like $4000. Maybe. So we've been trying to pay debts down and we'll do that for another year. Try to get everything but the school bills paid. They her car is gone and we're looking at a forester or a tribecca for her. Hope my car holds on for another year or two and I'd like to get a legacy GT or an STI or a new WRX in like 2011 or so. Either that or be buying a house. Hopefully a house. Paid like $6000 or so off the debts in the last 4 months. So woot on that.

See i am opposit. when i got married and had a kid i got my wrx, in manual.

just teach your wife how to drive stick.

what i did was put the baby in the car asleep drive to a large empty parking lot.

switch sides and tell her to start driving and dont wake the baby.

you would be amazed on how a mothers instinct can actually teach her to drive a new car. just my $.02

thats what i did and now my wife and i race to see who gets out the door first in the scoob. loser takes the prius.

and then put this in the backseat
