funny thing in china

you have to offer it three times before they say yes. If you stop at two you are rude.

He probably doesn't understand what tipping is, even that its gratuity for him it seems like you might be cocky and trying tog et something out of him. He'll probably learn sooner or later.

But etiquette is location-specific, so typically in the US I go by US rules and tip. It could be possible that they're just running a Japanese style shop where they don't accept tips, but that's probably rare. Either way, they can't hold it against you for doing what's called for in our society, so I wouldn't worry about whether or not they think it's rude. I just always try to tip, and if they say no, I put it back in my pocket and say thank you.

More than anything, I don't think you want to give them money because they handle the fish/rice/nori. Beer and sake were definitely appreciated.

Not sure how those numbers work, I just go by ootoro > otoro > Toro

OH yah, that's what it's called, thanks Hide. I've been staying away from that part of the menu for a while xD I coulda sworn there was a difference between Otoro and Ootoro? My friend and I were on a mission in Tsukiji looking for OoooOootoro.

I'm in for a sushi meet.

Slightly off topic (still japanese food) but whatever happened to the meet up for Tonkatsu? We had that whole thread going about the best places but then it sorta died off.

Sushi Meat! What? A play on words??

Anyways.. It's not expensive if you make your own, plus learning is fun!

Never mind the turdy looking thing on the lower right, that was steamed Seabass with a fresh Galangal Ginger and Garlic spread on top.. Tasted awesome/looks a little nasty.. But the rest was really good and all made by my wife - her first try. It's pretty fun really and since sushi/sashimi was something I grew up with, it is always welcome.

Oh yeah also that's Aloha Shoyu in a Kikkoman bottle..

In case you have never used Galangal Ginger, it's really good but it can be rude sometimes..
