I'd talked with him a few months back and had told those friends that he seems a bit off his game lately and I knew something was bothering him deeply because he kept switching "On" even though it was an almost empty coffee shop. This was mirrored when one of the other's in our group went on a short ride in Marin w him recently. Everything lately just was taking it out of him and we could see it.
He loved to make people smile and laugh and feel better about their own lives, ironically, as you infer, to take away his own things and feel better himself as a result.
One of the nicest and most genuine people I know of from my Father's age-group. He was more than a customer and although in a group of his own, still found time to talk to me and treat me and a few select others as almost friends.
Godspeed Robin, and just to follow in-kind...

I and others from that Rocker Bike Shop already miss you man.
