RIP Scott Kalitta

I don't know if you all follow NHRA racing but...Scott Kalitta died today in a qualifying run. I met the guy a few times at races in the pits...my thoughts go out to his family and friends.

I saw it on the news. Sad deal for sure and one of the worst ways to go I can imagine. I wouldn't wish death by fire on anyone. Drag racing isn't at the top of my motorsports favorite list, but it's still racing. I feel a connection with racers no matter how they choose to go about it. At the end of the day, or in this case the end of all days, we're all still motorhead brothers.

R.I.P. Mr. Kalitta

Right now its looking like the fire didn't kill him. They think the explosion knocked him out, he hit the sand trap at 250+ and sailed right over it into the safety wall.

I kinda think the shut down area at that track is insufficient. Didn't even look like he got into a sand trap. It looked like he hit a wall that was at the end of the track. It's a sad day in motorsports.

The official stance is he was out when he hit the wall. I know it looks like the shutdown area and sand trap are small but keep in mind he was at 300+ when the explosion happened. He hit the sand trap at over 250, at that speed it would take a sand trap over 100 yards long to slow you down let alone stop you. The car floated and ...

Yea, with him out and not being able to do anything to try and slow the car it would be next to impossible for anything to have been able to keep something from happening. It's extremely tragic.

RIP Scott Kalitta, he'll be missed by a lot of people

One thing said over and over by his fellow peers, we all know what can happen out there on the track. Scott would definitely want to go out the way he did, it is sad but true

Just hope his family can get through this and be strong.
