Repaint entire car?
I've never had an entire car painted, and I know prices range from $500 (Maaco) to more than the blue book of my car. My car is in good shape, 1 or 2 small (pencil eraser head size) on the doors, and some scratches on the bumpers, and that is about it in terms of body work.
Has anyone gotten their entire car painted? Happy with the results? Better than factory? How much did you pay?

I had a car painted at maaco and miracle. Its decent if the car is'nt worth much. If you have any metalic in the color you choose get the two-stage with clearcoat otherwise it looks like crap and dull.

My 2004 STI has around 40K on it, and I'll keep it for a while, so I am not looking for the cheapest paint job, something as decent as the factory should be okay. Any idea what that would cost?

For your STI I'd go to a good body shop. They range from $2500-up and a good paint job! It all depends on the prep! Please don't take your STI to maaco or miracle. There only good for a cheap car to sell or look decent and thats it. They suck otherwise!

WTF? A maaco job on an sti....
if you were looking to hussle someone and sell it immediately after then whatever.
But if you plan on keeping it or being honest when you sell it you better save and get a better paint job. No way in hell would I pay bluebook on a car like an sti with a maaco job on it. I'd wonder what the cheap *** was hiding.
there is a reason real paint jobs cost more.
Get a real paint job...ESPECIALLY if you want to change colors.
If you're changing colors expect to pay between $4-6000.
No color change $3-4500.
I wouldn't expect to pay any less then $4200 for a REAL paint job. Cost me $3000 to paint half my car.

Funny thing is a maaco job would look nice on my car since about 20% of the paint on my car is missing!
I don't really care too much about the paint job in terms of asthetics, but I'd definitely would want something somewhat durable when I paint it again next.

Thanks guys, at $4-6K, I am going to wait for more wear and tear before I go for a respray, if at all. I didn't think it was that expensive, I remember when a decent (about the same quality as the factory) was around $2500, and at that price, I'd seriously consider it, but at $4-6K, it would be an easier decision to just sell the car and buy a new one...
