rental car help!
5 of us are going to drive down to LA this weekend. I need your inputs on which rental car company to go with and what kind of car to rent.
I will be the main driver and my primary concerns are safety and comfort.
However, the secondary driver is more worry about the price and not being able to handle a full-size suv/van...
That is why we don't know if we should rent a samller 5 seater car/suv or a full-size 5+ seater suv/van.

most places charge like a 15 dollar fee for underage drivers, like yourself. at the rental place i worked at over the summer, they had toyota sienna's going for like 90 a day, plus like 30 a day for full insurance which covers liabitlity and also collision but they dont rent to under 25 unless you like kinda ask them to make an exception, which they usually do. i thikn for 5 people, plus luggage, u should get a minivan or a small SUV. unless u dont have that much of a load then a camary should be fine. most places' price vary day to day and the place i worked with change it everyday to try to match or bear the bigger companies. the place i worked at was www.cityrentacar.com. if u have your own insurance, dont get their liability insurance. collison insurance is good because if anything that happens to the car..they take care of. i would suggest having one of your friends be the primary and you just not driving because that'll save some money on the underage fee. this place offers free pick up and drop off service..which means they pick u up from wherever you live..as long as it'ls like a 2 mile radius around their office. you can always try hertz, enterprise, or budget rental ..those are a few big ones. good luck!
go with enterprise. they only charge $10 for underage drivers and they usually have the best rates. check the airports, too... if youre close to one, they usually have specials. since there are 5 of you.. you should roll up in a SUV or minivan.

+1 for Enterprise, plus I believe they still rent out Ford Crown Vics and Mercury Grand Marquis. Turn off the traction control and do a couple burnouts on the way to LA.
last time i checked you had to be 24 to rent a car.
i allways sugest getting the extra 5 doller a day insurance. but i usualy seriously ****up rental cars. you would be surpised how well a neon can negotiate a flight of concrete steps.

i used enterprise to move from socal back to the bay. they didn't charge for an extra driver.
(we were both over 25)
and i'd get the insurance so i won't have to worry about minor scratches or dings.
have fun!
