Regular coolant added

Sup yall.

Topped off the coolant in my 2012 impreza before reading that it had special 100k mile coolant. Manual says to drain and put in subaru coolant. Is this necessary? Thanks.

Yes, it is. Just like anything else, it wears out over time.

How much did you put in? Was it overheating or you just noticed that it was low?

If it was just a small top up and the car was running fine before and after, I wouldn't be too worried about it.

But it's not crazy expensive or difficult to do a flush and get the right stuff in there.

Wait, which one did you put in? Orange or Green? You need to top off with whatever was in there already or they won't mix and you will have issues.

If you mixed coolant, it just means the coolant change interval reduces to the change interval recommended by the coolant manufacturer of the "inferior" one added.

IMO, if you don't want to spend big money on the Subaru-branded Subaru Long Life Super Coolant but want the same stuff w/o Subaru-branded upcharge, just get Beck/Arnley Premium Prediluted Antifreeze / Coolant EXTENDED LIFE BLUE coolant (P/N 252-1501).

Based on my findings comparing the MSDS's of the Subaru OEM super coolant and the Beck Arnley coolant, it would generally be safe to assume the Beck/Arnley Premium Prediluted Antifreeze / Coolant EXTENDED LIFE BLUE coolant (P/N 252-1501) is the absolute closest coolant in the aftermarket to Subaru OEM coolant.

Ya very small top off. Vehicle is fine. Just dont want a blown head gasket in 8 years. I guess I'll change it out myself.

Know of any good DIY guides for that?

Thanks. You guys/gals always deliver.

I didn't check the audio on what he's saying. But it's pretty straight forward if you've done other minor car work. The funnel he is using is super helpful but the job can be done without it.
