Regarding exhaust wrapping.

I posted this in factory turbo too but need answer ASAP cause im in the middle of it...

I wrapped the Downpipe and noticed all i have left is enough to do the midpipe next. How much of the exhaust do i need to wrap? Every section? or is the Downpipe good enough

BTW this is a Turboxs turbo back

thanks, eric

I don't even know why you'd wanna wrap that. Usually people wrap things in the engine bay, like headers (or I guess in our case the uppipe), and turbo even to separate ambient temps and internal temps.

What are you hoping to get from wrapping the down pipe?

If you can get the downpipe that's probably good enough. The real object of header wrap is to keep the EGTs up so that the gas doesn't lose velocity as it cools, which increases lag, and to keep it hot enough to quickly light off the cat to prevent nasty emissions (which is why Borlas cause CELs on EJ25s- the EGT is too low for the cat to work right).

Thats the other thing I was thinking, about velocity... but once its passed the turbo... ? Pre-turbo pressure will push it all anyhow, right? Just a thought... colder-denser past the turbine with hot-expanded before the turbine, sounds like good combo? Why not?
