I used to go to the $1 theatre in pamona back in the day. Talk about ghetto.

Saw 12 monkees there....had to spend 2 hour explaining the dang movie to my friends afterwards.

no joke man. I mean it was insanely rare for a movie to make $200 million and it was a major achievement to make $100 million. Now that number is easily done by even not that great of movies. I mean how can they complain when after paying all the actors, crew and graphics people they end up with an easy $20million in the bank? If not more.

It's crazy. I bet they charge $4.25 for a coke because of people bringing their own soda too right? I mean come on that freakin soda cost them about 12 cents to make.

I want to start a movie theatre. Small. 2 screens maybe. I'll start showing movies a week after they hit the big screen. Save a little money that way. But my theaters won't be full of uncomfortable chairs and stupid kids. They'll have a few rows of chairs like that. Some tables. Some coaches and recliners. A few bar tables in the back by the bar. Serve food and drink. Have special showings after 11pm that are 21 and over and serve alcohol. They have theaters around like this. I know there are some in oregon. I mean I could even do live concerts there on certain nights and have indie film and old film nights.

F the system.

dude i'd totally frequent your theater. they had some back in the east coast and down in austin. it was the bomb cause the people who prefer that environment tend to be a little more civilized.

I've been considering getting into a couple of different businesses but I have to find backers and what partners and what not.

The theater idea was something I came up with about a year ago talking to a buddy about there not being enough cool places for local bands to play and we were looking into opening this old theater in gilroy back up...and it just kinda sprang from that.

The other idea is snowboard related. There is this snowpark on the way to bear valley. It's been for sale for years. The guy is asking way to much right now. Basically it's got a lodge and a small slope with one lift.

I'd set up some snow machines because the snow fall isn't the greatest down there. Some lights. One side would be a huge pipe and the other side would be a huge park. Rails. Tables. You name it. Would set up a deal with bear where if you have a bear valley lift ticket you get in for like $10 all night. Be like $15 otherwise. All day for like $30. I would tap beer companies. Board companies. Video games. You name it for sponsors. Have like a custom painted burton pipe dragon. stuff like that. Do shows up there and what not. Beer festivals. Comps.

Summer time I'd set it up as a crazy bike park. Huge jumps. A 4x course and a DS course. Then have a fat skate park behind the lodge.

I've been planning that one out for like...5 years probably. But the initial investiment would be huge and coordinating all the sponsors would be a ton of work. I would need a couple of full time AR type folks on it. A finance team and probably have to front the cost of the property myself.

not saying that anyone here would steal your idea, but posting YOUR IDEA certainly leaves it open to be "borrowed" from.

That's two things you've now made me paranoid about when going to public places man, as well as the whole bathroom door handle thing.

haha, sorry, man. one of my younger sisters got lice when she was younger - best we could figure was she got it from the theatre they had been earlier that week. none of the rest of the family had it..just her and there was no outbreak at her school. was wierd.

For those of you in the east bay, you should really check out The Parkway theater:

http://www.picturepubpizza.com

It's a "speakeasy". A place where they show movies that are in the tail end of their theater existence, typically about a month after it's been released. They make great pizza and you can get a pint or a pitcher of good beer. It only costs $5 to get in, and they've got couches, recliners, etc. to sit in. Oh, and Wednesday nights are 2 for $5 Hell, even if you're in another part of the bay, it's worth coming up to check out a movie and have a little pizza/beer.

The trailers. I admit that I arrive at the theater early enough to to not miss the ten or so minutes of preview trailers before the feature attraction. I like to watch them because I usually have no idea what I'm about to be seeing, sorta like a theater 'grab bag'. Sometimes the trailers are better than the actual movies turn out to be but I still think they're fun to watch.
