What's that? A RallyCross close to the Bay Area! Whoooooooooo!

We're proud to announce our inaugural mixed dirt and tarmac and RallyCross at Altamont Raceway & Arena on November 6, 2005. By popular demand (both from competitors and from ourselves!), Altamont provides us with a location closer to the Bay Area, bringing good times in the dirt closer to the masses. If you've been wondering what RallyCross is all about, come check it out! Tell your friends! Register now!
We'll be working hard to get the word out to everyone we can. Making Altamont a success will help us secure more dates in 2006 - for RallyCross action closer to the Bay Area!
The Altamont RallyCross entry fees are $35 for SCCA members, $40 for non-members (4 runs, times combined for a total time). This is a non-points event.

Just got this from Skylar! Boy, this sure changes a lot of things! Since now it's WAY closer, I might consider going back to rallyx.

I'll deffinately be there!
I think this event is somewhat experimental, but if everything works out I'm sure we'll have many future events there as well. Hopefully it'll bring in more of the bay area crowd!

I'll answer Leo's question in this thread
It really depends how it goes next month. If we can get double the turnout at Altamont we'll want to do more events there, and if Thunderhill continues to see lower numbers and we lose money, it'll be hard to justify running events there. If you look at Solo II, Bay Area events pull in about 2x the number of Sacramento events since there's just a whole hell of a lot of people in the Bay Area.
However - it's too early to make any certain annoucements right now though.

wow, cam back 2 hours later and there are 4 threads! Someone should merge them all.
I am sure we'll get A LOT more people. For me, that would save me ~$25 on gas alone! No more overnight, that's another $55. Don't have to eat out for dinner and breakfast, there goes another ~$15. Not to mention that would save me ~3.5 hours of driving. Yeah, I am cool with this new location!

From what I remember of my time playing in the dirt at Altamont after races there on Saturday nights, it's a hard packed based with a loose dust top layer in the flat areas, and just plain loose on the hill sides. But I'm guessing they're going to run the RallyX out in the fields which I haven't driven in before.

We'll be running it inside the arena, not out in the fields (use permit issues).
Here is a Google satellite image:

There's actually a lot to work with when you see it in person. Here is a panorama shot I took earlier this year which doesn't do it justice (looks small). Also, the stuff you see in the middle will be moved.

We'll be borrowing the timing system from Solo II for the Altamont event which frees us up to make it as long as possible (rather than having to do the start-on-the-minute stuff with the rally clocks we have). As you can see in the satellite photo there are three main sections of dirt we'll want to use, so the tarmac portions are basically a necessity to make it to each one. Also, rolling-start and finish will be on tarmac since we're using the Solo II timing lights.

I guess that's better than launching on tarmac
