Rally racing

I was watching some rally racing today. It had the Richards, Pastrana, Blomqvist, and another guy racing their subies. One of the cars needed a tranny swap. It was out in 20 mins. Holy tranny swap. That's like out in superman time. They said it was due to some mods to make the swap out faster. Gees, that would be cool if that was the case with doing your own suby, huh. And it is done on jack stands...

WRC teams have to do the entire swap in 20 minutes. Watching those tech teams in action is quite amazing, not to dis the VSC, Sutton and Rocket crews, it takes real teamwork to pull off Rally service and keep up with the schedule.

I still think there should be a shop that does that kind of thing for customers- "oh you need a new tranny, bring it by at 11:30 and we'll have you back at the office before 1."
-then on weekends they could be out working at Rallys, well practiced!

Ahhh.... but if you watched the WRC last Sunday, the Skoda team just couldn't do it in that time period much to the disappointment of McRae and Grist.

The WRC guys have a total of 20 minutes in service, regardless of where they are in the running order, Rally America's service times are a little different in that they sometimes do re-seeds and so some cars might get more time in service than others.

The skoda team was pretty well screwed last week, that was a task that they should have been able to pull off but I guess things just didn't work out like they should have.
