Thumbs up RainX

I'm glad I put on two coats of RainX on my car's exterior windows this past weekend. It's helped out tremendously with visibility in the rain.

+1. I usually drive on the freeway when it's raining without my windshield wipers on.

My wife's car needs RainX re-applied more frequently because she still uses the wipers even though I tell her she doesn't need them (as much).

Anyone ever tried to apply some other sort of alcohol concoction on their windshields? I mean, that's pretty much all rain-x is. If you wipe regular rubbing alcohol on the window it sheds water the same, I just don't know if it lasts as long or has "side effects?"

I'm pretty sure Rain-X has a polymer that's suspended or disolved in the alcohol so once the alcohol evaporates (~5 minutes...) the windshield has a coating of clear slick plastic/wax on it basically.

I use wax. S100 works killer and doesn't cloud up like rainx does. I don't really have functional wipers on my caddy so the wax is crucial.

I've used Rain-X before and it worked great. But switched to Aquapel a year ago and works even better.

Same here I stopped using it because on my older car I noticed it shortened the life span.

What do you think would be the reason for the shortened life span?
