R1 Concepts Rotors
R1 Concepts Rotors
I am probably due to replace my front and rear rotors/pads soon, and was wondering if anyone had experience with the standard blank R1 Concepts rotors from ebay. Also, if you have bought them, I see that they are either going for about $85 + shipping (~$20) or $135 shipped. Aside from the difference in prices, I can't seem to tell what the difference between the two is. Anyways, any input you guys have would be appreciated. Thanks.

Or you could give GST a call. They're having a sale on brake packages right now.
supporting local vendors ftw.
Call any of the local shops. They'll hook you up.

I am running their Premium line rotors on one of my other project cars, 1988 Celica Alltrac and paired them with Porterfield R4-S pads. I chose them primarily because they looked like the better choice of the very few brake options offered for my car and for the money it has seemed like a good product. I have not had any squealing, warping, rusting, etc so far, but I only had them for several months.
Obviously, you would be getting a stock straight vein vent system, which is inferior to some of the pricier aftermarket options (directional veins of PowerSlots or "kangaroo paw" of DBAs) and possibly lesser quality rust and paint treatment. The rotor venting really only becomes a concen if you are reaching really high brake temps that a rotor cannot cope with, so that is why you need to consider what the car will be used for; for daily driving it should be do the job well, but for any spirited/aggressive driving I would go with a more premium choice that is slotted as well. Pair it up with a solid pad, stainless lines and a good fluid and it will probably be more than sufficient if you are indeed on a tight budget.

I used to run stock rotors with Axxis pads. I'm currently running some slotted rotors (Peak Performance) with Hawk/Axxis pads, SS lines, and Motul fluid. Honestly, to me, there was only a slight increase in braking performance from the slotted rotors/SS lines. I only plan on using my car for daily driving, so I'm not too concerned with high performance, as long as the company/rotors are legit.
I'd call a shop and ask about a package. Back in the day I got a full brake package from a local shop for under $250. They'll work with you.

I have ordered twice and they appear legit so far. I received my orders after a week since placing them and customer service always replied to my emails within 24 hours. Hope this helps if you are still considering them, but +1 for local shops as well!

I think most prospective customers balk at the price of "name brand" rotors (compared to generic) that are typically sold by local vendors; doesnt make the customer feel like their interests are represented by the local vendor, which defeats the point of going local.
Now if there was an argument to be made for the name brand rotors performance over the generics I think we would all listen. If the reasoning is compelling maybe some people would invest in higher price rotors. But this is not the service offered typically.
I'm in the same boat as OP, thinking of going ebay rotors too, unless someone can explain why it makes sense to spend 2-3x as much on what local vendors are offering.

I think Centric slotted rotors are like $350 a set right now... something like that. Stoptech for $300.
I think Speed Element has Brembos for about $180 a pair.
Wheeldude does powerslot and a couple others.
