Question: (citation for ) going over 100mph
So a friend of mine was given a ticket for going over 100mph on I-5, on his way to LA. The officer told him it's mandatory for him to appear in court, but ticketassassin.com doesn't note any exceptions for written declaration. Is he going to have to go to nowheresville court twice or can he do a written declaration for at least the first appearance?

I got a ticket last month for "speeding 100+". They told me that it isn't mandatory to appear in court. You'll get a courtesty notice in the mail...(mine said $450) and it will say whether you have to appear in court. Mine says that I do NOT have to. Sign up for ticket assasin's and talk to him. Because it's your first offense, I don't believe you have to appear in court. Depending on the location of the speeding, they may be willing to drop it below 100, in which case you only get 1 point (instead of 2) and can go to traffic school.
I don't need more cowbell dammit!

The truth is the punishments and minor traffic laws vary from county to county. However, by California Vehicle Code, excess of 100mph is considered wreckless driving. Just be glad you're not in a county where it's immediate jail time and impounding of your car.

The court date on my friend's ticket is on July 30th, but he hasn't received his notice in the mail. He got the ticket about 2 weeks ago.
I suppose he should just call the traffic court that he's supposed to show up at to see what they say regarding this matter, was just wondering if anyone knew. Ticketassassin doesn't state anything regarding 100+, so he's kind of at a loss what to do. He'd definately prefer to contest via written declaration, as it'll save him a day of driving there and back with his witness.
Which brings me to....
In this instance my friend was informed he was going 103 by the officer, my friend had a passenger who can confirm he never was going over 100, does that help him at all?

it kinda help.s... but now it's a matter of the judge believing him. judge's always take the cops word.
The first appearance is really just to schedule when your real court case is.
You can also call the court and see what's up.
That is a very soon court date, it must be because of the county. I've been told that you should get a lawyer for a speeding ticket over 100.... but, I would just go to court with the friend and pray.
The guy at ticketassisins will respond to e-mails if you pay for membership... he'll likely be slow to respond

Also, my brother 'found out' that if you get caught going over 80mph in Santa Cruz County (he got nabbed @ 92mph on 101S) you cannot take traffic school for it.
