Question about a ticket I received

i received a ticket a few months ago, while test driving a car that my friend was going to buy. the cop gave me a ticket for speeding 35mph in 25mph, and for no registration. im not too concerned about the speeding part, but more about the registration. when the cop pulled me over, i even explained to him that this was not my vehicle, and i was taking it around the block for a test drive because my friend was interested in buying it. he said that it didnt matter and the registration ticket will go to me because i was the driver at the moment. This is a problem right now, because on my courtesy notice, it says i need to pay 400 dollars or so if i do not have proof of registration for the vehicle. I CANT get a proof of registration for the vehicle, because the owner of the vehicle refuses to register the car for some reason. so my question is....am i seriously responsible for his registration? i really do not want to pay 400 something dollars for this BS. help me out guys

Yes, because you were the one operating the unregistered vehicle. And you did so knowingly.

if you are test driving a car, how would you have a registration.

I would call a lawyer on this one.

just goto the judge.

tell the judge you sold the car you were driving. show them a fake release of liability and most likely it will get dropped.

Hopefully you are joking? This is a great plan unless it goes wrong and he gets busted for perjury.

+1 for court.

-1billion for lying to a judge.

Just go in and tell them exactly what happened. They're usually pretty understanding in my experience.
