If you have Excel on your computer, it has a really nice tutorial...or at least the Mac version does. I learned simply by sitting down for a day, and figuring out what each key did, and picked up most everything I needed to know. I can do all of the basic functions, create linked spreadsheets, build tables and the like.

Your online course sounds like a good way to go. You might want to check out HP, they have a ton of on line courses.

I'm a Bookkeeper and learned how to use Excel years ago at College. Excel is rather like cooking - you will always pick up tips & tricks from other folks.

Instead of taking the Excel specific class, I would check with the computer information systems or business admin class list for the basic business computing class that teaches word, excel, powerpoint and access. You'll probably get really board in the section that talks about windows, but it's a better bang for the buck kinda class. Ya know?
