With all this talk about the stock alarm being a piece of crap that don't work, it's gotten me worried. So all you alarm gurus out there, what's a proven way to stop the theives, or at least make them think twice about even touching your car. Either that or should i chip out 6 bills for lojack ><

 

This sucks cause I don't really know if there is a proven way to stop them. Some are skilled and others just don't give a **** and will try to steal whatever they please. Obviously it depends what kind of neighborhood the car is parked in and how visible it is for other people to see. I'm using an OEM alram but its actually a Legacy alarm modded to work with my RS. You could try adding an ignition kill switch for an added measure i guess.

 

they can always tow it. there's no 100% full proof method.

i just use a good alarm, garage and don't park in shady areas... lol

 

parking in a secure place is probably the smartest thing you can do.

 

park in a well lit area if you are parking in a area you aren't familar with.

Hide faceplates, gps units, laptops, lock glove box and trunk.

Oh yea, if you have the stock alarm, just turn up sensitivity all the way. That's what i do.

 

I have a friend who installs alarms and stereo's, and he talks about how he can make it much harder to steal (By doing a bunch of stuff including wiring up the fuel pump to some kind of switch), but in the end whether or not you car is stolen is dependent upon how much time the theives have. It's all just wiring, and if the theives are smart and have time, your car will be gone. I want mine to be a big PITA to steal, so maybe they will give up halfway through, get pissed off, and just break all my windows or something.

It's a sensitivity sensor, not a proximity sensor. Why would you dislike it?

Btw, my car's sensor, although turned up ALL the way, doesn't get set off by loud music or loud exhausts.

There is no workable way to stop thieves. It all depends on how many obstacles you put in place to encourage them to move on. I got a Clifford alarm with fuel and ignition cutoff. Even if the car started, the alarm has anti carjacking so the car will shut off later. Even still, I got my Club for those dicey areas

I once saw a car with really dark tint (a red acura I think) in NYC. A small sign behind the driver side window said, "No radio. Thanks."

Even Lojack claims a 90% success rate, so 10% of the time they still get away.

 

there is no definitive method to stop thieves. all you can do is slow them down. own a mid-90's model year honda and you'll come face to face with that fact. granted that hondas are stolen much more often, so there is a methodology on how to steal them. i do believe that those honda guys have tried as much if not more than what a normal owner would do -- two-way paging alarm, hood sensor, hiding alarm brain, the club, the autolock, removing steering wheel, unplugged ECU, fuel cutoff switch, ignition cutoff switch, and disconnecting PINS in the engine bay.

do what preston suggested -- park in the garage, stay low in profile, and don't park in shady areas.

 

hey law, how do you turn up the sensitivity of the stock alarm ?

 

i use auto-lock(attaches on the brake) and for reassurance taking the negative off the battery if im ever worried about parking...
