Umm...
Let's see.
Let's play business advocate here. These are numbers taken from a business who I did some consulting for at one time.
Rent for shop and warehouse space: 5000.00/mo.
Business license: 300.00/yr. + taxes paid on income (city)
Insurance: 450.00/mo.
Utilities (lights, water, etc.): 180.00/mo.
Phone: ~700.00/mo. (1-800 lines may be free to customers, but cost the company) Depending on amount of customers calling (not necessarily ordering).
State income taxes: Dependent upon amount of business
Federal income taxes: see above
Employees:
Wages:
Federal taxes:
State taxes:
Unemployment Insurance:
Worker's Comp Insurance:
Benefits Contributions:
So, the overhead per month = ~6350/mo. + cost of employees (unknown how many, or how much they're making) = EXPENSIVE
Don't think you're not getting the same markup from almost anyplace you do business with. This is the cost of doing business wherever you go.

huh? You think the Bay-vendors buy a sway bar for $140 and sell it to you for $140?

No. However, they don't charge as much as Vivid, and at least with the vendors I deal with, I don't mind if they make some money off of me, since they do a damn good job at getting me the part. Super friendly... give you tips on how to install, etc, etc.
And when is the last time you've heard of a Bay Area vendor ( a good one like Gruppe-S, MPJ, ) sell a used part that they said was new? What about not taking it back if the product is broken? Yeah, never... thats what I thought. Good argument you bring to the table here.

Also, if it weren't for Bay Area vendors, we wouldn't have wonderful events like the Mt Hamilton party which has been a big thing for BAIC since the begining.

At my job a person who borrows $300 ends up paying $1170 in interest over a 1 year period of time, and they still owe the principal of $300.
That mark up is higher then vivids, I guess we are a rip off
I do agree Vivid sucks, but business' have to make their living, high mark ups are a part of it.

I'd say nearly 300% markup is high. If you think prices are to high you can shop somewhere else with more reasonable pricing. Thats the point of competition. It also not a good idea to let your wholesale prices out for everyone to see.
Like us, a sunroof only costs us $12.99. Another $200 for the labor. Remanding $800 I use to buy Peeps and Guinness.
