programmers

Anyone here program PHP?

I code CSS/XHTML etc etc.. and really wanna step into PHP/MYSQL

Can anyone suggest some books that would be good?
Something that does not require a previous knowledge of programming.. because I know nothing about programming at this point. I want a book that will look at me as an absolute beginner to programming.

I ordered this:
http://www.amazon.com/exec/obidos/tg.../-/067232525X/
because it was about 10 bucks shipped. and saw a few people talking about it on another site.

any other suggestions? I have a 50 dollar store credit at barnes n noble

any suggestions would be appreciated! thanks!

I know PHP, but it was really easy to get into since I already knew Perl and C++.

I would suggest taking a look at www.spoono.com

They have some cool PHP functions on there, and most of the PHP/MySQL database interaction is the same iterations, just used differently.

I told you man, hit me up.

Now, that project you mentioned would probably take a while to make. And it would take a server with a whole hell of a lot of database space, but it's possible. Now...for the amount of time it costs to make, you might want to weigh the cost of just purchased the pre-compiled program...

If you want to get into mySQL, try the SQL Cookbook. I had never used SQL or mySQL before but was able to write a whole string of queries and build a webpage by using it.

i find that every book is for different kind of programmer. some books might be easy for me to follow and read but not for you. let me go home and get you the ISBN for the PHP book I am using. But I suggest you to go the library or bookstore, flip through couple of them and find the book that is right for YOU! Good luck!

definitely a good call.

But my preference is to learn from myself through examples and tutorials I find on the net...then again I'm not professional status or anything, my code always looks a little funny, but it always works.

if you know ANY kind of programming, check out WROX's book:

http://www.wrox.com/WileyCDA/WroxTit...764557831.html

i learned php 4 on their beginning php 4 about 8 years ago.

remember, you must know how to program with something already.

btw, php 4 is dead.

mmmm, it still has SOME uses, I mean, there have been a few projects I worked on that PHP worked just fine.

But what's with this new program microsoft has out, apparently it's supposed to "rival" flash?

I've always wanted flash to have the ability to run like a shopping cart or other advanced things, maybe microsoft will pull that off...

actually, if you are gonna concentrate on MySQL, i suggest the books put out by MySQL PRESS.

i bought this one:

http://www.amazon.com/Database-Desig..._sim_b_title_2

and just learning ONE fact, made the cost worth it.
