Prodrive ABE questions

Still on my exhaust quest.

I will keep all my factory cats.
Would like to do a reflash/AP 2.0 to get the most power ouf of the stock set up + catback.

With that in mind......

I need better sound. I like the sound of Prodrive, and that it looks stock since its a single tip like my 06 WRX.

BUT, will I hear the Prodrive without removing cats? I've heard a borla Hush and I cant even tell it's there unless the car has cats removed. Is the Prodrive naturally louder than borla hush? People compare the two alot.

Will it sound any louder with getting a midpipe?

I prefer the car to be kinda quiet in the cabin except during spirited excelleration. And I also want to try to keep a stock looking single tip.

I kinda like borla XR-1 too, but it may be a tad too loud during normal driving. Bosal single tip...from the clips i've heard it's about at quiet as as the Hush.

I Just sold my Harely and paid off my WRX. I miss noise.

Have you thought about APS.

IPOZESTU has a KILLER deal on an APS single tip TBE over in the classifieds. Looks stock. Has a meaner sound but it's not very loud until you open it up. My cat back was louder...until the 20g came..haa.

just put some washers in your exhaust, I hear that makes it sound awesome and gives you +10whp

I'm pretty sure the Prodrive axle-back will add some pretty good sound w/ the cats still on. Someone back me up on this?

The thrust from my air horn already gives me the random extra 10whp.

well if you just want a little bit of sound and aren't worried about power then get the prodrive...or get an sti genome.

and why get a cat back? Just get an axle back. Cheaper. It'll look just as good and it'll give you a little extra noise.

Right. I guess I'm just trying to see if there are known downsides to doing Prodrive and if I will get what I want from it. I know it's 2.5" and not sure if a 3" makes any difference givin the limited mods i will ever do.

a 3inch really isn't necessary for an axle back/cat back if you don't plan man/any other mods. But you will get more note from one.

I hear nothing but good things about the prodrive. They make great stuff.

I would say no downside really.

If you're just looking for the sound then go w/ the axel back. If you really want to unlock some power go w/ a 3" TBE. The APS on sale is a great exhaust for the price he is asking. You can also buy a brand new cat to bolt (not weld) on to that exhaust.

I hope thies helps

I have a prodrive on my sti. I got it on there three weeks after I got the car it it was a little louder than stock. not too quite but not too loud. I love the sound of my car. I did just get a Catted down pipe and I had a custom straight pipe that goes from 3" at the down pipe to 2.5" for the Prodrive axle back. It now sound the same under 3500 rpm but once it get up it is deeper but still not as loud as my buddies HKS Carbon.
I hope that helps a little bit.

Thumbs up

You will hear sound only when you want to. Nothing tiring at high RPM, just right for acceleration.
That's why I love my Prodrive/Scorpion axleback.

Looks like now I just need to find a vendor and pricing. Maybe i'll replace the rear pipe too to get rid of the resonator, but, first is to find someone seling prodrive.

Is there any bay area shop selling it that I could go pick up? Anyone know?

Thanks,
ekvin

There was someone in the classifieds section selling one like mine last week. Not sure if it was sold yet.
As to dealers/shops... good luck finding the older models. You may be able to find the newer one.

I hear that Marin Subaru is an authorized Prodrive vendor, and they'll be happy to have the item shipped directly to your house.

There's also a rumor that pricing is $339 + tax and shipping direct to your place would run ~$15.00

I'd call them at 800-400-6144 x26 and verify these rumors...

Hope this helps.
