Your dog is mimicking your behavior. WHat do you do when to doorbell rings? This is pretty typical; you stop what ever your doing, your attention focuses on the door, you don't know who it is, you walk to the door and open it. Translate that to dog language. Sleeping, bing bong what was that, did you hear it, better run and see. He's doing exactly what you do, just the way a dog does it. WHat do you want him to do? What drives him? Use it to get him to do what you want him to do.

hmmm. thanks for that. didnt really think about it that way. the thing is, its somewhat good that he barks and rushes the door when he hears someone by the front steps or ring the doorbell for security reasons. I live by Haight street and there are sometimes drunk people or bums that hang out on our doorsteps. Its nice that Tank sometimes scares them off. But when friends and family come over, I dont want him to do that.
