im having trouble training my dog how to not charge the front door everytime someone rings the doorbell. any tips?

 

have him stay and someone ring the door, over and over. positive reinforcement!

 

She passed away 3 years ago at age 13.

And finally, she`ll be 2 years in September. She was trimmed for the summer, but her hair is getting long now.

She`s a Basset Hound.

 

This was Tiger (a pit-mix). Excellent dog, had to put him down, he liked to eat the neighbors sheep!

 

Sad to hear. Very nice looking animal. What was Tiger mixed with if I may ask?

 

I think it had some Australian Cattle Dog in him.

Your dog is mimicking your behavior. WHat do you do when to doorbell rings? This is pretty typical; you stop what ever your doing, your attention focuses on the door, you don't know who it is, you walk to the door and open it. Translate that to dog language. Sleeping, bing bong what was that, did you hear it, better run and see. He's doing exactly what you do, just the way a dog does it. WHat do you want him to do? What drives him? Use it to get him to do what you want him to do.
