I say check the rear end and see if it is a wagon or a sedan

Otherwise the most valuable stuff has already been said...

Yo man you BETTER check this one out.

My car - late '03 tranny, held ridiculous power, and I know a lot of late '03+ transmissions that held hella power.

Early '03 and '02 tranny - boom!

I think some of the late '03s had the shimless buckets and better heads of the '04 as well

Get the build date of the car and then ask one of the local tuners

and don't forget you'll be using different brake pads depending on if you're early or late '03

Seems like the tranny is the most commented item to check. I'll check the build date ASAP! Any idea what build date to look for? IIRC Nov '03 andlater are "04-"05 models, but I may be wrong......

the build date will not necessarily tell which tranny it has...
mine was built in 10/02 and has late 03 tranny and front brakes, the rear brakes are from an 02...

the thing is, during the middle times, Subaru was mixing and matching parts..so like it has been said, its all about the codes, check the transmission code numbers... AA or BA... i think those are the two codes for bugeyes.. i believe the BA tranny is the stronger one... if someone can clear that up for me that would be great.

I forget, sorry - ask one of the shops around here or post on NASIOC, more technical experts there.
