Damn, I didn't think it would come to this....
Parked outside my house a day before I leave the country for a month and an old man causes a 4 car accident in front of my house taking out my subie.
Need some advice from local folks...The estimate of repairs is ~$11,000. State farm won't totall the damn thing. What should I do?
Should I: 1) Fix it and move on with my life, or 2) Take the $ and try to sell the wrecked car as is?
I'm kinda over this ride with all this damage and I want to see if I can at least make a down payment on an STi
Damage:
Driver's side F+R doors, front fender, quarter panel, both front rims+tires, all front suspension components, and all the other various BS accessories to recreate its original from. Engine, tranny, and driveline seems to be fine. I had no problems w/ the motor+ tranny ever.
What do you think the damaged car is worth as is and where can I get rid of somethingl like this as is for a fair price? It a 2002 WRX, MBp, 59k miles. Clean as hell before this damn madness.
ANY INFO/Suggestions would be greatly appreciated.
I will post pics tomorrow so you can get a better idea.
Thanks Bay area folk.

remove all after market parts and sell them
then take the money from the insurance
i cant beleive its not a total if its a 2002
trust me it would never drive the same after being repaired from that much damage

That really sucks.
A stock 02 with 59K is probably worth $13-14K in trade-in value (I traded in my stock 02 WRX wagon with 30K in 4/04 for $14.5K). I'd say take the $11K and sell the wreck to someone like the Subaru recycler in Rancho Cordova ( http://www.4subarusuzukikiaparts.com/ ). I would think you could get at least $2-3K for the drivetrain and miscellaneous parts that are undamaged, bringing you up to what is likely the totalled value of the car.

oh man, i would take the money, buy a 2.5rs for like 6k put the motor and what not into the 2.5rs sell the 2.5 motor and other components you will no longer need. and have a sweet conversion
but yeah that is weird that they will not total it.. i thought if the damage was over 50% of the cars worth they would total it. I have a friend who works for state farm, i will talk to her and see what she suggests. do you flat out own the car or are you making payments on it? because this is one hell of an opportunity to get an STI. I pray every day that my car is totalled without me in it just so i can get an STI, or a 98-01 2.5rs.. but damn that is weird.. check back i will post what i find out.
update::
I talked to my friend shes says thats weird and is gonna investigate it. I will let you know/

If you are interested in selling it after you take the $11k let me know. Hy husband might be interested in it. He has an RS he'd like to do a swap in. PM me if you are interested and let me know a ball park figure and where the car is. Thanks.

subawhoState farm's total estimate was exactly $6,740.24 frickin cents.
The autobody shop (which will remain nameless) autobody jacked the price up to $10,755 for stuff like: $1,400 towing+storage fee, $197 for a frickin' 225/40/18 toyo fz4, $300 for ONE rota subzero, $300 for a chipped side skirt etc.
Did you really post the ad on Craigslist saying beware?
I have the paperwork in hand for any non believers.
Screw whoever posted that, I will deliver both estimates in hand to whoever's door so they can shove it up their rear.
I don't lie.
