My water heater all of a sudden started leaking at the bottom last night. A bunch of water flooded over the drain pan into a corner of the garage, but luckily I don't think there's any property damage. I need a professional to assess the situation for me (i.e: fixable, or replacement needed). If you have had good experience with a certain plumber, or someone who deals with issues such as this, please let me know.

also check out what kind of piping you have. or at least see if you have a dielectric union there now. don't want that dissimilar metal corrosion down the road.
I would either buy a hot water hose or be prepared to buy a new hose after you run all that hot water thru your normal hose.

If you do end up needing a plumber, CPI is great. They are in San Jose but they go all over the bay. I know a few of the people as well as the owners, and they helped me with a disaster last year and really went that extra mile so to speak. 408-978-3094
Tell them Jacob sent ya. Or don't - either way.

Thanks for the response guys. I can shut off gas at the main and at the heater, so I think it should be safe. The water in the tank has also been drained.
Over the weekend, I'm going to try disconnecting the pipes and moving the heater out of the corner. I want to have a good look at the leakage hole to see how bad the corrosion was. If the disassembly is not too tough, I might decide to install a new one myself.

You might not even need any parts i did one for a freinds parents and i didnt have to use any parts but they where selling the house so i brought it back up to code.
just make sure screw in a T&P valve because if u just plug the hole your hot water heater could explode and start a fire.
Once you got it all together and u start filling it just open the hot water side of your bath tube to get a off the air out of the pipes. And if you have a gate valve above your h2o heater dont shut it because it might get stuck. go out to the street or side walk where your water box is and shut it off there because that valve is stronger and if it does break the city has to fix it.
If you have any questions just ask.
