the kids that do it on the street are stupid, but the ones that go to a track to do drift events are not stupid. Same as a auto-x or rally-x.
Drifting has been huge in Japan for a long time and the F&F movies brought it to america so now its the new thing.

i would drift at the track, i even drift a few open turns by my house in my miata, but ive driven with people that have no respect for the yellow line, cutting all the way over it on 180' turns.
you come up behind them and they think they own the road and dont pull over as they suddenly speed up and get all jerky with the wheel.
saving the "drift track" wont really help drifting stay off the street...it would only add to it i think.
dont get me wrong, im all for saving it, but will always hate the words Dr1ft and T0ughey

i agree to some extent on the "coolness" factor that F&F brought to drifting...but case and point is that drifting has been around just as long as drag racing! i was drifting on the street as soon as i got my license...and before that on the tracks....so lets just say early 90s is when i started....but my dad and uncle were doing it in the 60s! it wasnt called drifting....but its the same thing...at least how we do it in the USA...Japans has a different history.
Sadly there are always a few rotten apples to spoil everything for the bunch....but what? should we just lay down and say ohhhh youre right...drifters are stupid. or should we make the concious effort to show them that they are just bad apples and the majority of people...at least those at the track are responsible? Am i guilty of being up on Grizzly Peak doing things i shouldnt have been doing in my RX7? yups! Was it stupid?? YUPS! did i learn the track is a better place to be? Yups!
i dont think its fair to hate on "drifting" because of where you live....the bay area is synonomous with IDIOTS in cars.....it doesnt have to be a drift, drag or autoX car....just the normal mom in her Outback wagon who had a fight with her husband or something stupid...if you encounter her everytime shes in a bad mood....can you justify the stereotype of moms in outback wagons are b!tchy bad drivers?

The think it is important that if the drifters goes down, what about the rest of us? Let's be honest... government don't really know the difference between drifting, auto-x'ing, and other forms of racing. I am sure most of you guys out there have already been mis-labeled as street racers and drifters.

Looks like the board of sups passed this into effect tonight.
Sorry guys, looks like someone really has it in for drifting at altamont.
My bet would be the guy on the hill near the track, he's making life pretty damn hard for everyone.

"I'm living under conditions you wouldn't let a rat live under," Rivard said. "It's been horrible."
started building his multimillion-dollar home on a 57-acre plot he purchased in 1999 on the rural eastern edge of Alameda County.
Never mind that the property line was just 120 feet from the edge of the racetrack.
As far as Rivard was concerned, the track was a minor annoyance worth enduring in exchange for the enjoyment he, his wife and two daughters expected from living in a rustic outpost and dealing with a relatively short commute.
"It's an awesome, beautiful place,'' Rivard said, "and we are outdoors people."
Rivard even hoped to buy it and shut it down.
But he didn't get the chance, and in May the guy who did buy it brought Altamont back to life in a very big way -- with a $1.8 million face-lift and regular weekend nights for stock car, motorcycle and truck races. Even NASCAR competitions.
From all accounts, it didn't go well. The owner, John Condren, who is also looking to open a major speedway complex in Merced County, made it clear he had big plans for the Altamont track -- including an expansion to accommodate drag racing.
When Rivard vowed to fight, according to his attorney, Mark Cohen, he was warned, "We got more money than you -- and we are going to bury you and outspend you."
Rivard, however, is not without resources. He has spent $20,000 on lawyers and sound experts, and he and his neighbors have gotten a number of regulatory agencies breathing down the track's neck. "
Id like to gouge his eyeballs out with a fresh $20,000 bill.
what a dick he is, is this the guy that they said was even a moto-X guy and still complaining? i doubt it but that would be sad if it were true.
lol two daughters...yeah, that family dinner wouldnt be awkward for a boyfriend with a "racer" car~ haha
this guy is seriously Fed up in the head, who builds their house to resemble a prison?
The funny thing is, the times ive been to Altamont, ive never noticed this was a house, i thought it was a utilities water pump/wind power station.

and does he really think he has enough power to show his face..."ok honey...make the face when i come home late from my 2 hour day....no not that one....................YEAH thats it! youre so pretty when you do that...

Same thing happened with Watsonville (santa cruz fairgrounds) they were pretty close to getting a RallyX event, but then got shut down before it even was scheduled because of noise...WTF!!! you run oval dirt races with V8s that only have headers!
My neighbors are cool with me riding my dirtbike on my 1/2 acre, and im glad...but it would be fun to F with this altamont guy if he were nextdoor!
not only do you not build your house next to a raceway...you dont build your house next to A FREEWAY! those are just as annoying!
