FAA: Airliner crashes on landing in San Francisco - SFGate

looks pretty bad sadly. How can they make it that far and start the landing and still get so ****ed over?

Doesnt seem bad for a crash. Having just flown all of last week, thats pretty scary though. We had a pretty rough landing in Vegas from Ohio. Felt like the plane just dropped the last 20 feet and then bounced off the runway.

Looks like the worst of the fire damage happened after everyone was off. From the helo video, he was just a bit short. Aft section scraped the runway right at the breakwater.
The aft section snapped off at the pressure bulkhead production joint.

ya from the debris it looks like the pilot was short and to the right. the 777 is one of the safest planes out there too

What I saw was live. Haven't been able to find that footage yet. The debris field started at the very beginning of the runway.

yeah its all a bit odd, as far as I knew the landings nowadays were pretty much all computer controlled and the pilots are more or less only involved if theres a problem/warning. Obviously at the end of the day its the pilots responsibility but its going to be interesting to why the automated system was off so far
