New law (27150.2 VC) does not require law enforcement to use sound level meters to test for excessive noise. Citation is based on officer's judgment. Cited violators may have testing done at smog referee stations or may be directed by the court to have testing done. Vehicles in violation must be brought into compliance. A fine may also be imposed.

Man that is such a crock of ****ing bull****.
I remember back in my younger and stupider days (a good 6-7 years ago) I was pulled over in one of the mass busts (100 cars+) at Gateway Blvd. one night during the street races. The cop told me to turn on my car and rev it for him. I did so as lightly as possible with a completely stock exhaust system and this stupid mother****ing pig writes me up a ticket for modified exhaust.
**** that! Half of these ****ing cops are military wash outs that wouldnt be able to function in the private sector because they were born with a bad disposition and only know how to speak to people in a condescending tone. That kinda **** doesn't fly in the office, so what do they do? They become COPS... my favorite.
I'm not saying all of them suck but one particular Officer Mufich from Fremont can suck my cack. So I had the ticket signed off by a cop in my hometown with the SAME exhaust on (hello, it was STOCK, the exhaust anyway.)
Gaaaaaaah! How many times do I have to watch some pile of **** Harley druise up and down a downtown street blipping his throttle unbothered by cops while we get tickets for nada... *****es...

OK... Breathe.... 10, 9, 8, 7...
Edit: Wow! That's a lot of *****'s up there huh? LoL

Even in the bike world, sports bikes get harassed more than Harleys for noise. I think the cops don't dare go after cruiser riders.

Up shift when you see a cop near.
If they want to write you an exhaust ticket, quote the law at them and say you have a tape measure in the back if the officer would like to go 50ft away from the car and listen to the exhaust.
Carry a decibel meter with you for the cop to use - it could be mis-calibrated.
Here is your reference law:

Is this why some sti drivers are getting tickets for stock exhausts?
Btw, do domestic cars get the same treatment as harley's do or do they get picked on as well? But just not as much as imports huh?
Edit: Don't Greddy mufflers come with one of those papers that say it complies with excessive noise law? If so, are there any other companies that do this? Such as prodrive or scoobysport mufflers..

Well, my friend got pulled over on 17 for doing 90 in the "CHP safety corridor" part, and they let him go, but my other friend, who was following him but doing about 70, got a ticket.
First friend was driving a white 98 mustang gt, 2nd friend was driving a 00' jetta 1.8t....hmmmm

The police department is desperate for money, so I guess they're putting up these BS laws to get money. They assume we import people have more money to spare for tickets than the domestic and Harley riders?
