Its almost that time again, for the "real mountain men/women" (you know who you are) to go to the Subaru Capitol of the world (Colorado Springs, CO) and see the most awesome display of hill climbing that is offered anywhere...unless you are talking about walking. Last year "Subie Gal" took her 1000 cc Supercharged monster to the top and the Subaru Team car almost fell to the bottom (during practice). Come if you dare, come if you prepare, but just COME. The local Subaru dealer is also preparing a Subaru extravaganza..."10 times better than last year" and that one was great. It all starts on the 23rd of June and ends on the 28th, race day...acclamating to the 14,000 ft altitude may take some time so come early

Dude that sounds freaking awesome!!! I love that race. When I get filthy rich, I'll be sure to build my own car so I can personally bltch Steve Millen, break the 11 minute mark or whatever it is that he's been trying to do, and then throw a huge rager at the end.
Oh and ravent, be sure to take lots of video and make DVDs for all of us poor folk.

I dunno, Randy is up there in age, does he even know what a DVD is?

what is a DVD
anyway, last year after the full size diesel tractor (semi, to those who care)beat our teams Subaru time by 20 seconds and his own record from last year (13:20:??) he rolled that bad boy and took out the timing system...good thing it was the last run of the day
The other "fun" thing that happened was when the "unlimiteds" (like Millen, but he wasn't there) ran, as one came buy the area I had just moved from to lineup to leave, he broke ALL the windows in every car parked by the road (about 10) with rocks rooster-tailing out from all four wheels...don't park by the road! That was the only car that did that all day because I had been shooting video from that spot too. The two "Pit Bulls" in the van next to us were not so aggressive as they had been all day either. The hardest decision is whether to stay in the pits and get "up close and personal" with all the teams and only see the race from a TV monitor, or go to 13,900 ft and really see at least 3/4's of each run. If the cold and wind bothers you, don't go up because there is NO possibility of change without a medical emergency. It's only about 10-12 hours cuz you have to go up early, before they close the road.
As far as cost, there is the 12-14hr drive (each way), race day tickets and camping is available (usually...last year due to draught, there was no camping) so the could be done for less than $100/per person, depending on your eating and DRINKING habits, but bring lots of water or plan on lots of high altitude sickness (one pint per hour minimum). They could close this race down soon due to environmental reasons, so don't wait too long to go or you will only see my old videos

IT is official now, but only on the Rocky Mountain forum...if you are going to PPIHC, the party starts by RSVPing the invitation that John Adams has posted there...there may be other opportunities, but the best way is to RSVP now.
