I've had 2 problems with their service department. I'll never go back there. I'll take my business to Diablo.

If you're making enough money, or working long enough hours, it really isn't worth your time. If you're working 60-80 week, why spend whatever free time you have on the weekend, wrenching on your car - especially if you can drop your car off and go do something else.

Realistically, you have to weigh your time versus the cost and the reliability of the mechanic you go to.

So I do know the story because the main picketer came by here last week. According to him they were all talked into extended warranties on their vehicles but when it came time during that extended warranty to cover some items the dealership refused for whatever reason. I do not know the entire story but I do know the one gentleman had a bone stock 04 or 05 STi with a blown motor and was not happy with the service department at Livermore Subaru. I have no opinion on Livermore Subaru other than Gary does rock (he is a customer).

Thanks for clearing this up.

I've heard more and more bad experiences with "extended warranties", and not just with cars. People don't know they've been scammed until waaaay later when they try to exercise the so called "extended warranty".

They shouldn't have bought extended warranties, but regardless, they should have them honored.

I do wrench on my car. But I was having a problem that I couldn't locate. I wanted the service department to find it for me. After opening my hood, the service manager went on and on why my JDM STi intercooler was junk and the stock WRX one is perfect and there is no need to put that on there and it just ruins the car. Then my wife's brand new Legacy had the check engine light come on and was running rough. She called Livermore's service department and they told her they could look at it the next day even though it's a brand new car. I see how they treat customers and I won't go back to them for that reason.

Jeff, ask the good guys at SpeedElement for a quote. They are great and it's not that far from where you are. It'd definitely worth it.

Hey, Im a detailer at the Livermore Automall and the Subaru dealership. I work there and I dont know what the story is. Im gonna ask tomorrow for sure though.

My mom mentioned the picketers, but I never got to see them cause i was at school and stuff. There's a 07 sti in the shop right now. its engine is blown. the guy changed the oil twice, and he has over 10K miles on the car. maybe hes one of the unhappy customers...

Changing the oil twice shouldn't have anything to do with blowing a motor. If you put good stuff in there you can stretch oil changes out pretty far - not that I do, but...

So now I am concerned - why are all these STI's blowing motors? I rev the **** out of mine, but of course always know that everything is in tip top shape.

Are the massively over-revving or what?
