People with boost/vac gauges, quick ?

Just have a wuick question to the people with boost/vacuum gauge. When your car is at idle where is your needle pointing at in the vacuum section?...What vacuum is stock idle at?

It will read vac at idle and during const speed cruising and boost only under load. My idle is something like 15-20 vac, cant remember for sure. Hope this helps

i've got an autometer...its reading at 23vacuum.....normal??

Is your car idling different than it did before the gauge install? If not, you're fine.

Common U.S. standard of expressing vacuum on gauges is inches of Mercury (Hg). IIRC, at idle my OEM boost gauge reads -0.06 MPa (megapascals). That equates to 17.7 inches of vacuum. Here is a conversion page:

Back in the old carbureted era, a stronger vacuum signal was desirable as carburetors were able to meter fuel more efficiently at low engine speeds. High overlap camshafts on a street engine could reduce engine vacuum at idle to less than 10 inches of vacuum (Mercury). Result: fouled spark plugs, bad fuel economy.
