Passing Smog bringing in a modified car to California???
Hey folks,
I have a question, my firend want to bring in a turbo'd BMW with all the trimmings from Florida but obviously it won't pass SMOG. Is there any ways other than returning it to stock to make it pass Cali SMOG CARB laws?
I am pretty sure there isn't but if anybody has any solutions can you let me know,
Cheers

Find someone up in cloverdale, california (north of healdsburg) to get your friend a PO box and register the car under his name under that po box in cloverdale.
This will make it so the car won't have to be smogged EVER, unless he gets pulled over for illegal modification to the vehicle and gets 'smog reffed'... or they apply smog laws to the area of cloverdale.
my buddy did this with a few RX-7's and he's never had a problem

My friend had the same problem trying to bring a C6 Corvette with a Lingenfelter Supercharger in to CA from Texas. He ended up finding a SMOG place in San Rafael that is known for passing cars with mods. PM me and I'll get the info from my friend this weekend.

Is he keeping a FL address? Easy, keep it plated in Florida.
My Jeep kept Michigan tags for 6 months till I sold it, and I live basically across the street from the Rocklin PD

you're going to have to do something illegal to make it pass without turning it back to stock.
Finding a shop that'll just make it pass is the easiest. Then again you could always take a same model same color car and have it pass with that car...
I would suggest going with the stock route, cuz then he'll have all the **** for 2 years from now when he has to smog it again...(=

Yeah but you have to be sure they will accept first though.. otherwise you could get in serious trouble if you mess with the wrong smog guy LOL
