well, oem is fine too. but more like a catalog of all sorts of oem paints from all manufacturers if that makes any sense? but i dont want it to be like "search by car or by paint code" i want it to just show everything. im just trying to get ideas on colors. i mean i know i can go into a ppg store and look at their catalogs or any paint store in that matter, but im sure there has to be a way to do it online?

youre not going to find much online for free. the paint companies make color sprayout charts/chips and sell them to body shops. so you could buy one or you could try going to a body shop and see if they will let you spend some time checking out their charts/chips. the books are super fun to look at, they include every single color put on a car and every factory variant of the same color.

You can always try like dr. paintchip and what not but it doesn't really show the real color. Like stated, you're much better off going into a paint store and checking the sheets.

You're gonna have to order paint swatches to get a good sample.
My recommendation would be to hit a quality paint shop and flip through their swatch books. Either that or just do searches until you narrow it down. If it's a factory paint go down to a dealership and look at it.
Unfortunately, even body shop samples are small. It's worse that the swatch size you get at lowes or home depot to paint your walls.
PPG and some of the other big guys have swatch libraries online but they're not gonna give you a big chunk to look at.
I've been looking at colors for my caddy FOREVER. I'm actually considering going vinyl for my suby. Gonna talk to our printers about hooking me up with raw material because they OWE me big time. They're giving me a damn ulcer with all their screw ups.

I talked to a vendor not to long ago about it and yeah, it's pretty damned expensive.
I don't think I'd pay that much since you can get a respray with the jams done and all that other jazz for less and have more options in colors.
I would expect to be in to it for $3000 or more.
I'm hoping to get a break on materials since it's a vendor we have been doing a lot of work with and they keep screwing up. I've spent half my day trying to figure out why their prints look like ****. Now I'm gonna have to spend more time rebuilding the files to print them in-house and then send them to cinci to have done correctly.
Figure it like this.... clear bra. Just the front of the car and you're in to it for $650. And that's not even full coverage. That material is more expensive so figure $2000 for materials and $1000 for labor.
For $5000 you should be able to get a full graphics work up on it. LOL.
But seriously... I'm still pretty new in the research phase. As I learn more I'll let you know. If I find a solid deal I'll hook you up.

yea seriously. it way cheaper to respray than to pay $5k for a wrap. if you had a couple friends come over and did a bunch of the basic prep work yourself it would be way cheaper. with a little know how, you can set up a basic spray booth in a garage for about $200.

It's pretty easy. It's even easy to build an air to water filter. You just have to check with your local air pollution laws. Every county has different ones. If you get caught breaking one you can get a HUGE fine. Fortunately at my house I don't have to worry about it.
Yeah... materials alone... I'm talking like $5-600 to paint my caddy. Sand paper, skim coat, primer, 2 base colors, pearl, clear, hardener, blocks, etc.
You can EASILY spend $800 on materials to paint your own car if you need to buy tools... and that's NOT including a decent compressor.
I'd do the body work myself and then have it painted by someone. If you're not doing a crazy color change it's way cheaper... say going from silver to a darker shade of gray. You can get away without doing the engine bay and door jams.
$3500-5k is about right for a color change.
Vinyl I figure $3000 seems about right. I'm hoping to do it myself and do it for less than half but we'll see what I can do for materials. The roof is only gonna cost me like $80.
I'm really hoping I can get material with enough extra to screw up a couple times for $600. But from what I'm hearing I might be smoking crack.
