Hey everybody! Wow, it's been a long time since I've been able to come on the boards again, so hello everyone (I'm not quite dead from exhaustion yet )
Anyway, I just wanted to announce that the 31st Annual Hui O' Hawai'i Lu'au is coming up again! It's the biggest lu'au outside of Hawai'i, and I'd like to see if anyone's interested in attending. Here's the info:

-Dinner (kalua pork, lomi salmon, and all da otha ono lu'au grinds!), Polynesian dance revue (I'm in it so you can laugh at me ), and concert by One Groove

-Saturday, April 26th, 5pm (doors open at 4) to about 10 or 11pm @ the University of San Francisco's Memorial Gymnasium

-Admission: $15 Students w/ ID, $25 General ($20 Group Rate for 4 or more: get an I-Club Table going!), $10 for Kiddies under 12

Only problem with the mission area is parking... and the hoodrats that like to vandalize cars. Otherwise, I have no problem with Hawaiian BBQ. Post something in the DCKK thread as an idea and we'll put it in the list of events planned.

You know.. if we're feeling up for it after BBQ, we COULD go to the new Coldstone's next to Todai's. MMMM... nummy ice cream!

Is that Lu'Au only open to polynesians? If not, I may be interested in attending. I have never been to Hawaii though, but I love Kalhua Pork.

Basically, what I am asking, is, "Am I going to be ridiculed by, or offensive to anybody because I am white?"

I don't want to infringe upon somebodies cultural gathering.

OK let's answer some questions....

-Wingless Wonder: eh don't think there's a website. Try calling the hotline (422.HULA). Parking shouldn't be too big an issue; you can always buy a space in one of the lots if you can't find street parking. Food will be served until we run out (so it's gonna keep being served as long as possible)

-Shadowcat: Hey Joe! The Luau is actually at USF; L&L was just an idea for Fri nights, and it's over in DC Top of the Hill: so not too ghetto at all And there's a big parking lot too!

-BADWRX: the luau is open to everybody!! If you like Polynesian culture or food or just wanna see hula gals like Owlboogie, then by all means c'mon and go! Joe's right: haoles and locals are all welcome!

-dorifto88: my thread rocks thanks to you and HKBeef!! Mahalo!!

Hey Jacob, howzit? How'd you end up here instead of Hawaii?! You left a good thang behind, brah! Just a guess... is Pahoa on da Big Island? I really dunno, I'm an Oahu kinda guy Anyhoo, welcome to freezing S.F.! There used to be a really good Hawaiian restaurant over in Japantown called Hana Hou (strange name, yeah? haha), but that place went outta business a few weeks ago. There's E Komo Mai (another funky name -- why not No Ka Oi Restaurant, it's to da point! ) on Judah and 32nd; the food there's up and down tho depending on who's cooking. Then there's L&L Drive-Inn if you miss that: it's in Daly City in Mission Plaza near Jefferson Hi Skoo, and they got kahlua pig as a special sometimes.
