One Stop Auto in Brentwood?
I guess I don't expect to get too many responses to this post, but has anyone ever been to One Stop Auto in Brentwood for maintenance or service? I'm wondering if they are honest and how good they are.
I'm asking because I recently bought an '01 Ford Explorer Sport Trac (no flames, please), and I believe the starter is going bad (it's not under warranty). Problem is that the truck sometimes won't start after being driven for a while (no clicking sound heard, will not turn over). After cooling down, the truck will start. Of course, this did not happen at the dealer before I bought the truck on last weekend. I need someone to check to see what condition the starter is in (I already had Kragen Auto check the condition of the battery, the battery is ok).

No info for you regarding that specific shop, but it certainly sounds like a classic bad started. Starters aren't that hard to do on the thse 4.0l Fords, so I say you give it a stab yourself.

Thanks for the info, Chris!
I can see the starter from underneath the truck. It looks like there are only 2 bolts. I'm going to bring it in to have them load test, if possible.
This Sport Trac is my first American car/truck...

No problem. I don't know eactly how it's done, since the starter I helped replace was back in school and was the older model 4.0L that ford stopped usuing in '95, but I can't imagine this one should be too much different. For that matter, most cars that use a front engine, rear drive layout are usually pretty easy to relace the starter for. I'd say you should pick up a Chilton's or something similar, and try it at home. You could probably just figure it out on your own, but those books also provide tq specs and for the cost, are worth having around in the future for any car (not just American
) that is out of warranty. Just remember, you'll need standard tools and not the metric one's you're probably used to.
