That was pretty nasty, although I did manage to get through it while sipping a glass of red wine. I've seen so many disgusting things on the interweb that I'm desensitize to things like this.

technically that's an abscess because its full of pus. Cysts are similar, they can be filled with air, or fluids.
They're usually caused by a clogged pore/sweat gland/hair follicle. It becomes infected and grows in size and inside its basically a pool of dead white blood cells around the original infection. Sometimes the inside stuff becomes necrotic (dead) which makes it smell horrible.
