a projection??
Yeah, its the greates viral ad for Cinnabon ever!

But seriously, you need something to project onto and it was a totally clear night so thats not it, also a projection is 2 dimensions and this was seen in three dimensions from different places in the country

Kinda like the bat symbol is projected... I know Batman is fiction, but the bat signal is def doable.

Ever shine a powerful laser into the sky? Perhaps a very bright flashlight? It projects into the sky and you can see the point where it ends. I remember my science teacher projecting some weird image into the sky using a REALLY bright colored light (green). It wasnt as cool as that, but it was still done.

Okay take off the tinfoil hats, turns out yeah it was a Russian Sub-launched Bulava ICBM that failed. The blue trial you see is the primary stage booster fuel, you can see where it starts to lose stability and spiral, by the time it hits the second stage (white) its gone from spiraling upwards to doing donuts in place like a drunk redneck behind the wheel of his El Camino in a Walmart parking lot on a Friday night.
Russians have already claimed it and I guess they had posted sailing warnings in the area of the White Sea for the missile test.

#13 2009-12-09 Launch from a submerged submarine. The missile reportedly malfunctioned shortly after firing and self-destructed.[26] Failure
Obviously Alien stuff, cuz we as a primitive species couldn't do anything to replicate that for fun anywho.
There are aliens, people just need to admit it. If we are a grain of sand on a huge beach, each grain of sand has it's own solar system, that is a lot of things in outer space, there has to be other beings somewhere that have the technology to travel in space.
There are three types of alien types.
Stage 0: Us, primitive beings feeding off our planet.
Stage 1: Solar, We're getting here within 100 yrs (or so estimated by space physicists) Using our main source of energy as our use (the sun). Exhausted the planet we're on, we need another energy source.
Stage 2: System, Using the system, (milky way) to draw energy to feed the need of the being. Exhausted our star (the planet) and we're now using the whole milky way for fuel.
Stage 3: Galactic, using multiple systems as energy sources! =P
