Ok noob question, but its really bugging me.

im always hearing different things about unequal and equal length headers. Which one retains the boxer engine sound?

They both retain the engine

If you are referring to the sound, you want unequal length.

yeah, unequal length will keep the sound, and the equal length will turn it into a honda sound.

This is what I said in another forum (after hearing actually quite a few in order to come to this conclusion). A couple people, including Alex, posted saying I was wrong. I still stand by my opinion, and feel that when used with an Apex'i system, it sounds like a Honda fartcan on crack.

yea im going to stand by that as well...equal length will make it sound like a retarded honda....personally equal length headers are worthless on an N/A impreza...the headers cost about 800-1000$!!!! completely worthless for only a minimal of if ur lucky 10-15hp and its hard enough to make power out of a N/A 2.5L so i just stuck with some borla headers that were unequal length for that awesome boxer sound

i have an 01 2.5RS .... as far as gains go...i havent felt much of a difference really...probably because the car was super slow to begin with...im happy with my borla header, got it dirt cheap from a friend that practically gave it to me lol

Maybe it depends on how you drive. I have the same car, but also w/ a ScoobySport axleback, cai and l/w flywheel. I just put on my Borla a couple months ago. It made a very noticable difference on my car in the sound and the way it drives. I wish I could have dyno'd it before/after to see. The stock Y pipe is a total joke.

That plus our engine, being a HO engine is just a sideways inline.

Ok, I'll bite. What exactly is inline about a boxer setup? It's as inline as a v8.. if by inline you mean 'some cylinders are next to others'
