ehh, i wouldnt do it. change the filter.
I wonder how many miles and how hard you drove your car with the oil thats in it. Also, what kind of oil was it?? funky pennzoil? or Mobil 1? Is this an emergency oil change or do you not have the 5 bucks for the filter? These turbo cars are hot running babies and the oil gets beat up more as compared to a average vehicle. ITs not a good idea and I wouldnt make a practice of it...but I dont think its gonna cause any damage IF the old oil isnt black goo that you left in there for 6000 miles.

The oil filter contains the valve that regulates oil pressure. When the filter gets clogged then it will bypass the filter altogether. In all the years I've been changing oil, I can't ever remember not changing the filter too. Pure One is what I've been using on my Scoobies lately.
Bad Idea
The oil filter usualy holds about 1 quart of oil anyway. Changing you oil without changing the filter only changes some of your oil.
Also, this 3000 mile crap is really annoying. 3000 miles was invented by the oil industry with a brilliant plan to separate you from your money.
While it is possible to break down the oil in 3000 miles it is unlikly. Synthetic oil simply wont that quickly. Many years ago, Mobile1 took their synthetic oil and put it in their drag car, raced it, took it out and put it in their formula car, racced it, took it out and put it in their racing boat, raced it. When they were finished, it still hadn't been broken down.
I change my fossil oil every 5000 and after about 160,000 it runs like new. Friend of mine has a new vette he races at the local drag. It runs synthetic and has a system to notify him when he needs to change his oil. He gets 15,000 to 20,000 miles between changes. The dealer says that's normal.
Let me point out that this is ~400HP Corvette that sees track duty.
Am I telling you to go 20,000 between changes? No. All I am saying is that the industry has brainwashed the consumer into believing that 3000 miles is normal. People, don't believe it. It is about as true as one brand of Alkaline being better than the other. (Hint: There are only two major battery manufacturers. They are pretty much all made by the same people no matter which label is on them....buy the cheapest.)

according to your post you have not yet bought ur oil so why dont u buy regular castrol oil and use the money u save to buy a filter...another thing is that u said u have 3500 miles on ur car which means this is probably ur first oil change which means u have non-synthetic oil in ur car right now if u leave the filter alone and just change the oil u will have about 3.7 quarts on synthetic motor oil in ur car and 1 quart of regular oil in ur car and from what i heard u should not mix synthetic oil with non-synthetic oil.
Bottom line... BUY A FILTER

Buy yourself a dozen it works out to like $5.50 each. Can't beat that. BTW, my local dealer, Green Valley, charges like $7.50, which is SOA's recommended retail. The wholesale price, which I used to get when I was a Toyota counterman, is like $4.75.

The dangerous thing is that some of these filters are paper/cardboard. It can get broken down. Changing the oil without the filter is OK, but you should probably change it again sooner than you normally would, and replace the filter when you do that.
I to normally run synthetic about 5K miles. It is true that the 3k mile rule was devised just to get more money. When the engine is new you should change it at 1-2 K miles like twice, but after that 5 should be more than safe. I just keep an eye on how "burned" the oil becomes. If it gets pretty black and stinky, then you should swap it out ASAP. I usually hit it when it is dark brown. It depends on how boost happy you are as well. The harder you run her, and the more that you run with the turbines spooling, the sooner you trash the oil.
Not science, but the above is how I practice. That is the beauty of the forums. You can take alot of opinions, and from them, devise your own practices.
Good luck. I am sure you will be fine. The one thing that I can tell you for sure is "Fram is baaaaaad".
