Giants decline options on Marlon Byrd and Nori Aoki.

Still can't believe they don't want Aoki...

The official answer is that they want to go after some "big name" free agents, but as all Giants fans know, that doesn't mean much. Just the "we tried but it didn't work out" excuse that gets regurgitated every time. They won't pay Greinke top dollar, or Price, or Cueto, or whoever. Outfield free agents Alex Gordon, Justin Upton, Yoenis Cespedes, etc are still not going to come to the Giants unless it's a reasonable contract (in the Giants eye), and that's not happening either.

It's way too early to be that pessimistic. :D

If the Giants can't get Greinke for a 5 year deal (max) then I just hope they make the price high enough to hurt the dodgers to resign him

Why you say that?

TurnWRX 11-05-2015 10:55 AM

There are only a handful of teams that are willing to pay Greinke with a hefty contract, and that includes the Dodgers. Yankees, Red Sox, Angels, and Nationals. Giants will "attempt" to get him, but it's not gonna happen unless he wants to go to SF and take a small pay cut.

Giants haven't signed a high priced free agent starting pitcher since Barry Zito. The only time they give out big contracts is if the guy is home grown or is currently playing for the team. They won't pay for big name free agents.

I agree. It all depends on if the pitcher wants to be on a team with a great manager and a ball park that is super friendly to pitchers but at the same time, they won't get paid as much as other teams are willing to fork over. If Greinke doesn't come to the Giants on a good deal then I hope the Giants created a huge financial burden on another team. Plus I say 5 years is a max deal I'd want to give Greinke since he's up there in age.

We need everything else: Bull pen, some bats, a manager

I hope Puig ends up in SF :D

He will definitely not be in SF

iLoqin 11-06-2015 06:34 PM

No Puig, no hefty pitcher. Sorry, but I'd have 3 Leake's before a Greinke.
