The OFFICIAL movie review thread
Darn, 6/6/6 day is over.
So I just came back from "The Omen." I liked it, but don't see it late because it is slow in developing and may make you sleepy. Also, if you haven't seen the original, don't watch it until after you see this version because the new one is essentially a replicated version. Mia Farrow was perfectly cast.
Thumbs up.
I saw "X-Men" again on Sunday; finally saw the clip at the end about Xavier. Anyhow, I was thinking that they should've placed the kid in the Phoenix's vicinity, which would've nullified her powers, and allowed them to inject her with the solution, so she wouldn't have had to die.
Thumbs up.
Finally, "The Da Vinci Code." Bet you all missed the GC sedan cameo at the airport. Avoid the movie like the plague. Spend your money on the paperback instead. The movie would've been so much better with more shots of the Nike and a shot of Napoleon's coronation.
Thumbs down.

I Agree and partially disagree
Omen - good for getting you to jump in quite a few scenes. Damn dogs.
Very good movie...saw it late. Did not feel sleepy...
Have not seen the original, but am looking forward to renting it soon.

Fast and Furious/ Tokyo Drift
Just a quick review. Surprisingly, it was 1000 times better than FF2. In fact, if thay had just called it Tokyo Drift, and there was not a surprise appearance in the end, you would have no connection with the other films. The driving sceens were intense, the crashes were shocking. Though I've never been to Japan, I don't think they made a complete mockery of the illegal racing sceen. Of corse, the JDM school girls were hot, though they were not shown enough. The cars were all killer (if you could imagine them without all the goofie graphics).
All this being said, the dialog was horrendous. I'm not sure if the hire 12 yr old kids to do the writing, but it just takes the level of the movie way down. I kept thinking that that if you could edit out all the talking it would be a great movie ( think the movie LeMans ). The worst part of the movie was the main actor, the new Brian Spilner type charactor. This is not an exaggeration when I say, it seemd like he based his charactor on Billy Bob Thorton's charactor in Slingblade. "I likes french fried po-taters while drifting".
In any case it was a decient move. Entertaining if nothing else. I think it will do well in the theaters.

oh well, i'll still go watch it. i saw the da vinci code as well and thought it was a good. aside from the fact that tom hanks and sophie nouveau (sp?) did not match the descriptions of the author i thought the movie surprisingly followed the book almost 100%. i'm hoping his first book Angels and Demons will make it to the big screen. the plot in that book at 10x better than The Da Vinci Code...

Just my take:
Big screen:
X-men...wait for video.
Da vinci Code...I liked it. It followed the book really closely, they did a good job.
DVD:
Munich...I liked it. Very graphic.
Movies I refuse to see:
anything with fast and furious in the title
anything with stupid young kids getting hunted or killed by psychos...it gets old.
MI:3
anything with Jennifer Anistin (how the hell do you spell her last name)
anything with teen pop idols
anything with gay cowboys...or gay anything for that matter.

So I just came back from "Tokyo Drift." I liked it well enough, although I probably would've enjoyed it more if I had seen it at a more reasonable hour. The story, however, was all over the place. But compared to the second one, this was more in line with my expectations, which thankfully weren't unrealistically high. Look forward to a couple cool cameos. Thumbs up.

I finally saw "Cars" tonight. Great movie. It was quite funny, and very well done overall. The effects sounded great, and I really like the parts that were obviously motivated by intertextuality(e.g. multi-level wing, car neons, drifting sequences, etc.). The "outtakes" at the end were hilarious. Thumbs up.
edit: Also saw "Nacho" on Sunday. It had its moments, although others found it much funnier than I did. It reminded me sort-of of the new "Pink Panther," in the sense that it had one scene in the whole movie that made me really laugh, while the rest was just enhh. I love the "elote" scene and especially the crzay midgets. Thumbs up.

"Click" - Adam Sandler
I saw it tonight right after F&F3.
Goods:
Adam Sandler was VERY good in this movie vs. his older movies. He worked great with the time frame transitions in the movie.
The story turns from funny, yet stupid immature humor, to a more dramatic movie with a sad turnout at the end (but wasn't real).
The transition between the funny and sad parts were boring to me. I almost fell asleep in the theater.
Christopher Walken was also great during the entire movie. Seemed like he was just ad-libing his lines, yet he was so convincing.

Superman Returns
So I just came back from a preview showing. Wow. It really exceeded all of my expectations. The casting as well as the special effects were excellent. The narrative, though, was somewhat unique and "Pulpish," so you can look forward to a few surprises in the film. Very, very well done, and well worth watching. I was rather amazed at how good it turned out to be. Also, there was a preview for Spiderman 3, the Venom episode, which was very titillating. Big thumbs up.
