Just wanted to start an official food thread instead of looking through multiple threads. Maybe this can put together all of them... and on the topic of food.
Where is there an awesome Dim Sum place? =D

Anyone looking for a killer Mexican restaurant, I highly recommend Los Pericos in Campbell. If I were to compare to La Vic's, I can strongly state that the burrito is very robust with a quite distinct range of flavors. Also the orange sauce tastes almost nothing like that of La Vic's and actually compliments the burrito(other food as well) more so. The horchata has its hit or miss days to be honest.

There's a taqueria-style hole in the wall spot on California Ave in Palo Alto called Cho's. He's been there for decades and makes great steam buns and dumplings and all sorts of stuff. Don't expect a place to sit if you go during lunch on a week day. If you do find a place to sit don't expect it to be clean.
The only other place I go is Ming's which is right off of 101 in Palo Alto. It's quite possibly the opposite of Cho's. Lot's of variety, very hospitable, and probably on the expensive side. I always laugh when my old, master-race-looking, German grandfather eats the chicken feet. I don't touch those.
Both are great -- depends what you are looking for.

i honestly don't understand the rave about cho's. i've been to it a few times and i kinda just think it's average. i think a lot of people get caught up in the fact that it's some 80 year old hinese dude serving dim sum in a whole in the wall in palo alto and give it the benefit of the doubt. but to each their own. it is pretty cheap, so at least it's got that going for them.
as for mings, i just feel like the quality of the food doesn't justify the price. actually the last few times i've been there has only been for dim sum, so i can't personally comment on how their dinners are.
imo, there aren't really any great chinese restaurants in the peninsula... the best are in the city and south bay. hong kong chinese food restaurant in mountain view is my favorite local place... everything else seems just about as authentic as panda express.
on the topic of taquerias... my favorite place to get a burrito in the peninsula is los altos taqueria off rengstorff and old middlefield in mountain view... one of three taquerias in that lil intersection and i think it blows the other two out of the water. i honestly don't get what the hype is with la costena and i think la bamba is just okay. i also don't understand the craze over la vics... other than that orange sauce, the burritos are kinda dull.
thats how you know its legit. more protein.
