Yeah, I have been following this release. This is pretty much Sennheiser's way of keeping dat pimp hand strong. No different than Lambo or Ferrari releasing some ridiculous Transformer on wheels uber limited model to keep reminding everyone who is the daddy and what he does
Here is a Head Fi first look video as well.

I was thinking the same thing. Stuff that will fail long before the components they're moving will fail. Cool factor that adds absolutely nothing to the sound, and potentially even detracts from it.
For $55K, it better come with a hot chick to put them on me...and so on and so forth.

We are all thinking about it from a common man perspective. Yes, to us this is absolutely ridiculous, but not so much to people that can afford it. Our reaction is no different than that of a poverty line person being being appalled at our Senn HD650s and Woo Audio amps. Everything is relative.
They will either just pay for replacement parts like we would for our level models or, most likely, Senn will send said hot chick to service it and the owner. This is pretty much on the same level as Bugattis and LeFerraris where oil changes are $5,000 and tire changes are $40,000. Rational objective logic fails at those levels.

But motorized parts affect sound quality. Even if they claim it doesn't, I will believe it does. That's how audiophiles think.
Not that I can afford this, but I don't think 55k is that much for this compared to how crazy some other audio stuff costs.
