ESPECIALLY if you live in a place like California where the weather is warm things like mold can start growing on your cabin air filter and then get you quite sick.
Usually it just smells bad.
You don't need a special $20 filter or any of that crap. Go to Home Depot and buy one of the big filter sheets meant for house AC filters. It should cost like $20 and once you cut it to size it will make like 6-8 cabin filters. Spray it with some air freshener if you want.

I should have looked at this thread before ordering my 2nd cabin air filter. I took a few pics of my replacement this time: http://www.flickr.com/photos/we3poll...7626223963161/
I used the factory $$ filter & put some powder on the top of it to help with the general smell in the car. I like the idea of using a dryer sheet or just getting the Fram filter to keep the funk down. I just looked & found the Fram one for $16 on Amazon.

O Reily's had em for $15 I bought 2 1 for my mom's accord and my civic both use the same filter. Mine was really clean compared to some of the pics I saw on nazioc but my mom's filter was nasty! There was no smell from either system but I am glad I did change them both out.

Wow, people really this cheap? Have to replace ever 3 to 4 years and cutting corners on what you breath in?
