Not only is it St. Patrick's Day...
... Its the anniversary of the British being forced to flee Boston, the best city to celebrate St. Patrick's day in, by America hero Col. Henry Knox.
So you can thank this man for allowing us to drink real beer on St. Patrick's instead of that English crap.

Cliffs/tl;dr
Henry Knox created a plan to take British cannons captured by the Colonial Army at Fort Ticonderoga and use them against the British units occupying Boston. They moved the cannons some 200 miles through the snow on horse and ox drawn sleds to the high ground above Boston.
Given no real alternative, the British fled by ship to Nova Scotia.

British Siege of Boston
America, **** yeah.
